There is something about the discipline of writing that is rather beneficial for a guy like me. The use of language is not always something I work on crafting and refining even though I speak in front of groups each and every week. I am not sure that it is a sign of laziness although, that is completely possible, as much as it is a lack of knowing what to write and committing myself to the discipline of writing. Truth be told, like many of you, I feel busy. Too busy.
So, to help me I am going to work on writing 2-3 pieces a week. One of those pieces will be from a topic that is more of a writing prompt than a personal inquiry or thought. Today’s piece is just that, a writing prompt. A fun one to think through though and one that will have you thinking and creating your own list of characters. So, let’s jump in on my top 5 characters from a movie or show that I would like to meet. I essentially decided my list off of who I believe I would most enjoy grabbing a meal with.
5) George Costanza (Seinfeld)– I am not certain I have encountered a more irrational character than George. If there is something to get worked up about, George is sure to find it. I find myself living through George’s overreactions at times as though in some alternative universe I would respond likewise.
4) Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch version)– I am not certain I would enjoy being around him for too long. His eccentric behavior would surely irritate me in the long run but for a meal, I would very much enjoy watching this mind work.
3) Michael Scott (The Office)– I just love Michael Scott. I would probably learn how to love people better after being with him but if nothing else I would most definitely laugh.
2) Jack (LOST)– I resonated with Jack all throughout the series, LOST. Cautious, analytical, wants to please everyone, etc. He couldn’t let go at times when he needed to. I would love to sit down with him and if nothing else ask Jack if he understood what happened in the finale.
1) Coach Taylor (Friday Night Lights)– How can you watch FNL and not want to be around Coach T? He is a clear #1 for me because I have never wanted to turn a fictional character into reality and be around them like I have with Coach T. He coaches sports, fights for his family, helps players and students grow out of their failures and immaturities, and coached Micael B. Jordan.
Honorable Mentions: George Banks (Father of the Bride), Don Draper (Mad Men), Peggy (Mad Men), Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez (the Sandlot), Gandalf, and Dustin (Stranger Things).
Who would be on your list? There really is no wrong answer, unless you pick Marissa from The O.C. That would definitely be a wrong choice.
